OnceWhen is software designed to investigate how mixed-initiative, co-computational systems can help home users organize their vast collections of media by integrating the metadata-capture capabilities of current smart devices, and wisdom from traditional storytelling principles.
We are currently developing a visual interface that allows users to browse and organize their video and photos using both direct manipulation and computational clustering/layout. Layout is influenced by metadata stored with each media object (geolocation, timestamp, and additional features extracted computationally) and by the user's input.
